ECL's Choppers for Charity 2009
July 18, 2009
Another great day for the ride, supplied by the Calgary Stampede Board ( I was told) great weather and great company, of both riders, and staff and friends of ECL’s Choppers for Charity.
Tom Fredericks and the people of ECL worked hard in these economic difficult days, and still came up with 250,000 dollars for the Children’s and Stollery hospitals of Alberta with their hard work and devotion to the cause. WAY TO GO!!
More than 50 Harley Davidson bikers hit Calgary streets Friday to raise money for sick children and their families throughout the province.
The riders were taking part in the 12th Annual ECL Choppers for Charity Harley Ride and Toy Ride.
The ECL group has raised more than $2 million dollars since 1998 for equipment, services and research for children's hospitals in Alberta.
Friends of ECL Choppers for Charity also donate and support the Ideals fo the charity. For a full list of these guys, contact ECL I am sure they will pass out the names!
I was given the opportunity to have 2 passengers on this weekend. A gentleman on the way out for the ride and a lovely young lady on the way home. I wrote their names down, but somewhere along the way I lost the paper so if your reading this blog, please send your name in to me, and we will put it in here!! (Damn do I feel silly, but I tell people that the second shortest thing I have is my memory..now what was I talking about .? .,.,.Oh ya,...
Sometimes it takes more than ECL, Bikers, doctors and nurses
to make a medical miracle. Sometimes it takes a superhero.
Three years ago, Willa Marshall was diagnosed with a rare blood disease
that only two to four children in Canada have, called Sideroblastic Anemia.
In the past, this diagnosis would have meant a life of constant blood transfusionsfor Willa.
Thankfully, specialists at the Alberta Children's Hospital had
another option. Dr. Victor Lewis, a Pediatric Oncologist and bone marrow
transplant expert at the Alberta Children's Hospital offered a bone marrow
transplant as a cure.
In 2007, Willa was among the first in the world to undergo a bone marrow
transplant for her disease. Willa's little brother James was a perfect bone
marrow match, which was vital to the transplant's success. Today Willa is a
healthy and happy little girl who dreams of being a doctor one day so she can
help kids too. Willa adores her little brother who she will never forget how he helped saved her life.
Willa is the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation official ambassador.
Willa is one of 76 thousand children cared for by specialists at the
Alberta Children's Hospital each year.
The people at ECL still will be accepting donations until the end of this year at their corporate headquarters and at the HOG Rally on Aug 13th ..to.. 15th
Next year will be bigger and Better I am sure.
