2009 Calgary Toy Run

August 2, 2009

I want everyone to know I support the TOY RUN's anywhere I go around the world, and I will ride in it where ever I am when it is happening. I will be there on the 13th of September at 9 a.m. in Calgary this year, and want EVERYONE to attend.

Grande Prairie Alberta (population 50,000)  had more bikers show up for their toy run than Calgary for 2008.

Saint John New Brunswick  (population 70,000) out did us 2007.

Port Alberni B.C. (populationONLY  17,548) in 2006 expanded their run to 2 days with poker runs, kids games, BBQ pig roast, biker games, fish ponds etc etc etc etc. and made 49,000.oo bucks and got 20,000.oo bucks in toy donations.

It goes on and on.

Calgary did terrible. we were able to raise a grand total of  1110 toys and cash donations of $ 9915.21. (about $50,000.00 LESS than the Port Albernie crowd)

We are the 5th largest city in Canada, with a population over 1,020,000.

Look around at all the bikes and bikers around our city. All the quads on the decks of the trucks.

That sucks for the number of bikers in Calgary, the most affluent and cash happy city in Canada, (yes even in these economically depressed times)

It is a toy run for the kids and the underprivileged. Everyone who can afford a motorcycle can afford a toy and/or a cash donation for those who can't afford a pot to P%ss in.

If it is raining,  and you think you will rust, drive your car and bring a gift. Take a bus and bring a gift. Bring in your ideas for a bigger better toy run.  Hell, e-mail your ideas to me and I will try to implement them!!
Make it a community event, not a business event. One fitting Calgary and the population base and number of bikers in MY city.

The toy run isn't just cruisers. It is all bikers. Sport bikes, scooters, Vespas, can ams, customs, rat bikes, etc etc. EVERYONE should be out for the ride. If it is licenced for the street. Come down. Fill the lot. If it is a quad or other off road licensed bike, and licensed for the bush, bring it in your truck, off-load it and fill up the lot and fill up the trucks with your gifts.

Also remember the kids that are a little older. The young teens and adults who also deserve a gift.  Bring teddy bears for sure, but bring watches and gifts for the older kids as well.

Since the Salvation Army could not give the effort it needed to run the event in 2009, the event was almost cancelled. Drew stepped up, and tried to keep it afloat, and then Ranchmans stepped up their intention to keep it afloat. I commend Drew for stepping down gracefully and letting Ranchmans Do their best to make it happen, and ending the screw up at the begining of the year.

All past supporters should be remembered and listed as well, so they will continue to support the toy run and the reasons behind it.

I mention this as Ranchmans decided to  call the event the 24th Annual Ranchmans Motorcycle Toy Round-up.

The Canadian Tire store they mention in their e-mail  is at 9940 Mcleod trail S.E. Calgary.

I am still waiting for the rider’s participation package they mentioned, as it wasn't attached to my e-mail, so I requested it again, and all bikers can do the same by contacting the event organizers  e-mail. motorcycletoyrun@yahoo.ca

I hope to see over a thousand bikers at this years event. It is easy to do if even 1/10 th of the bikers show up from the Calgary Area.
